Skiing in Colorado - Winter 2005-2006

As newly minted residents of Colorado, it was time to ski, ski, and ski some more - especially in light of the awesome snow fall in 2005-2006. We began with what we knew: downhill skiing. Then learned to telemark ski (and never donned our alpine equipment again). Finally, we rounded it all out with some fun cross country skiing in our beautiful local wilderness.
The morning commute at our local hill, Eldora - a 10 minute drive from our house!
Still incredulous that we live here and can have so much fun.
We explored Copper Mountain with Beth. Despite the cold and gray, early morning, Beth was totally jazzed to hit the slopes. It is a huge mountain with some pretty sweet runs and nice backbowls.
By the end of our telemark season, we ventured to A-basin with Nicole, Andrew, and Drew. Nicole and Jeremy pause for a snappie before we enter the East Wall - whooop!
Dogs aren't allowed on piste, but certain cross country routes permit our furry companions to enjoy the snowy outdoors. Kaweah loves the snow.
I mean, Kaweah LOVES the snow.
Jeremy skis toward Brainard Lake with Kaweah.
Almost there.
Our area is known for high winds in the winter. Some portions of our route were nearly bare ground while a foot over you could find drifts 15 feet high! Another byproduct of the high winds are beautiful sastrugi formations.
Brainard Lake is a fun place to be any time of year. From here, there are several routes to the Continental Divide that wander through beautiful forests and rise into stunning alpine environments. Great for hiking and skiing.
Winter here is fabulous!
