blue lake

This is a quick and pleasant hike out of the Brainard Lake area (Mitchell Creek trailhead). There are some nice stream crossings in the forest coming up to Mitchell Lake (in less than a mile). Beyond Mitchell, the trail climbs into alpine territory and the homes of many marmots. Eventually you will hike to Blue Lake, resting in a beautiful bowl. We followed the trail on the north shore and it does continue further up to another bench, but we didn't pursue it. This is a busy trail (probably because it is an easier trail).
