12.8 miles 8,500 - 10,574 ft. rocky mountain national park, colorado july 29, 2005 |
Jeremy, Fiona, and I started out of the Wild Basin trailhead in Rocky Mountain National Park to hike Thunder Lake. It is a long, but gradual hike through forests. We passed several pretty falls and streams, but we all agreed that the only really spectacular part of the hike was Thunder Lake itself. It was boggy and very buggy at the lake. We paused for a snack at the windy end of the lake, but the mosquitoes were persistent. On the way back, we took one branch that was a shortcut (I think it cut out .8 mile). It was hot, and we were tired - I don't recall how long it took us. |
